LESSON TWO: Every Dog Has His Day

FLIP OUT: NFL referee Phil Luckett created the only coin flip in history that wasn’t even odds. During the Steelers vs. Lions Thanksgiving Day Game in 1998, he awarded the Lions the ball to start overtime after the Steelers chose tails and the coin turned up...tails. Apparently, there was no way for running back Jerome Bettis to win this one.

VISIT YOUR MUMMY: Come face to face with what Thutmose III looks like today. Think you’ll look better in 3,400 years? Face off at:

Tuthmosis III - A Mummy's Face

Tuthmosis III was unwrapped, in 1882, by Emile

Then go back in time to see what he might have looked like during his rule.

DO BATTLE: You know most of the story but feel free to dive deeper and see it all in living color and high definition on YouTube’s National Geographic Channel. See Egypt’s Napoleon.

FEEL THE FLOW: The Investment Company Institute publishes data on the flows into and out of mutual funds and exchange traded funds. You can view the weekly data here:

Do stocks or bonds have the hot hand this week?

GET HEATED: See The Hangover (2009). Yes, you could watch a movie like The Mummy (1999 or 2017) for an Ancient Egyptian fix, but I prefer Todd Phillips’ buddy flick about a night gone horribly wrong in Vegas courtesy of memory- erasing illicit drugs and the hot hand fallacy. Pay special attention to this scene:

SID: “Sweetie, it’s Vegas. You lose track of time in casinos. There’s no windows,  there’s no clocks. He’s probably on a      heater. And you never walk away from the table when you’re on a heater.”
TRACY: “You do if you’re getting married.”

Relying on a hot hand can lead to unplanned tooth extractions, stolen police cars, and nude mobsters in your trunk. Metaphorically, of course.
